Helping Students with Vocational Growth and Development
The professional school counselor is an integral part of the total education program at Lutheran High School North. Counselors nurture students in their spiritual, academic, emotional, and vocational growth and development. Counselors work to help students self-actualize and contribute to their world as responsible Christian citizens using a proactive developmental guidance approach. Counselors assist students in making wise decisions academically and vocationally, emphasizing the importance of career exploration and post-secondary education planning. Personal counseling efforts tend to be brief, solution-focused sessions, with those students requiring long-term regular therapy referred to outside agencies.
Our daily responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Academic planning/counseling
- Career planning/assistance
- Personal counseling and referrals
- College selection and application assistance
- Scholarship assistance
- College Rep visits
- Testing-Explore, PLAN, PSAT, ACT, AP test Coordinator
- Test Interpretation to parents and students
- Drug/Alcohol Prevention and intervention efforts
- Groups
- Classroom guidance presentations
- Crisis Intervention
- Peer Ministry Advisors
- Peer Tutoring Coordinators
- TREND advisor
- Conflict Resolution/mediation
- Evening parent presentations
- Title IV Funds administration
- Teachers support group
- Scheduling-assisting the registrar with conflicts
